Climbing at the Capanna Pairolo
As an enthusiastic climber, I regularly scale any walls I can find in my neighbourhood after work. If I have more time, I drive to the Capanna Pairolo lodge northeast of Lugano.
The beautifully situated lodge has its own climbing wall with 111 handholds and grips and two main anchorages as well as rings for adjustments (on direct ascents) and possible sideways movements. On clear and sunny days, you can see as far as the Monte Rosa massif and the peaks of the Valais Alps – including the Matterhorn – from the terrace of the lodge. I also enjoy the 30-minute walk to the 'Denti della Vecchia', dolomite formations that offer climbers 123 different routes of varying degrees of difficulty.
